The Phenomenon Of Vegetarianism

Vegetarianism is the practice wherein a certain person abstains from eating meat, be it red meat, poultry, or sea food. This has first been adopted as an adherence to certain religious beliefs and principles. There are, of course, other reasons for doing this practice, especially now that vegetarianism has become a growing trend in the world. Some people may choose to be a vegetarian due to health reasons, whereas others do it for environmental purposes, and others do it for cultural and aesthetic reasons.

No matter what one’s reason may be in adhering to the practice, the bottom line is that vegetarianism is seen as a practice with many health benefits. Based on various studies done regarding vegetarianism, it was discovered that mortality for heart disease is significantly lower for vegetarians of both sexes, mainly because their diet has lower levels of cholesterol, animal protein and saturated fat. Aside from this, vegetarian diet is known to have a lot of carbohydrates and various vitamins and minerals such as fibre, magnesium, and vitamins E and C, thus making it healthier.

The Vegetarian Diet

Following a vegetarian diet is a well-known and established way of leading a healthier life. Those who choose to live this practice commit to not eating any kind of meat or animal products. There are however, different types of vegetarian diets that have grown throughout the years. These are:

* Vegans. Vegans are those who totally avoid meat products. They resort to eating entirely plants, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, seeds, and fruits.

* Lacto vegetarians. This group consists of those who eat mainly plant foods but dairy products as well, including milk and cheese.

* Lacto ovo vegetarians. They are those who eat plants, dairy products, and eggs. Most of the vegetarian population in the United States is part of this category.

* Semi vegetarians. Semi vegetarians are those who exclude red meat from their diet but may eat chicken and sea food, as well as plants, dairy products, and eggs.


Low Carb Vegetarian Recipes

The main protein sources of low carb vegetarian foods are soy, tofu, and peanuts. Other possible ingredients of low carb recipes are grain products, nuts, seeds, eggs, dairy, microorganism, and fake meat products.

Low carb recipe ideas include a healthy mix of products such as nuts, seeds, eggs, dairy, and microorganisms. For vegetarians, this may include a good dose of asparagus, beets, bell peppers, broccoli, leeks and mushrooms, and other types of vegetables.

Vegetarian Diet Recipes

For vegetarians, the main and only concern is that they don’t have any type of meat to intake in their food. The key nutrients of a vegetarian diet involve (1) protein which is necessary for the growth and proper maintenance of body tissues, (2) omega 3 fatty acids, which are known to have the capability to reduce the chances of cardiovascular diseases, (3) calcium, to strengthen the bones and teeth as well as blood flow and muscle and nerve functions, (4) vitamin D for the absorption of calcium, (5) vitamin B12, for the formation of red blood cell and proper nerve functions, and (6) iron for hemoglobin.

Planning a recipe for vegetarians must involve a great deal of balance between the approved foods. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the most important food to intake everyday are fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, protein foods, and nuts and other soy products.

Delicious Vegetarian Recipes

The beauty of vegetarianism is that those who adhere to the practice are able to appreciate the value of certain foods and keeping a healthy balance in their diet so that they will still be able to get nutrients to make up for those that they do not get by eating animal products and meat. Vegetarian diet recipes may be a hard diet for some because it requires a great deal of discipline and knowledge about the food that you are going to eat, and having a proper nutrition balance is important in this type of diet.

Is Vegetarianism For you?

Being a vegetarian is not easy. It needs commitment and discipline. You can't be a vegan just because you want to follow the trend. You need to have a purpose. You can do it for your health or for your cultural beliefs, etc. The important thing is that when you have a purpose, you will be able to commit fully to the practice.
